6/24/2023 0 Comments Install devkitarm arch linux![]() Where do I start…įirstly I’d need to install devkitPro’s devkitPPC – a homebrew toolchain that targets the GameCube, Wii, and Wii U. So that eliminates the need to rewrite a bunch of the game’s code while porting it, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t still plenty to do. ![]() However, things have improved since then, and now the library is a feasible way to port PC software over to the Wii U. Now, to be fair, CSE2 used SDL2 too, but back then the Wii U port of it wasn’t very good, as this image should hopefully show: You can’t see it, but the audio was mono too. This time was different however: the Sonic CD 2011 decompilation rebases the game on the SDL2 library, and there just so happens to exist a Wii U port of SDL2. In fact, I had to reimplement everything in Wii U APIs: audio using ‘AX’, input using ‘VPAD’, and so on. In particular, I had to write a custom hardware-accelerated renderer using the Wii U’s ‘GX2’ API, which lacked documentation. I’d previously ported another decompilation to the Wii U, specifically CSE2, but that was extremely complicated. ![]() It was neat, and I hadn’t done anything interesting lately, so I figured I’d have a go at porting it to the Wii U. Recently, a Sonic CD (2011) decompilation was released.
